Spätlese : literally means late-harvest: ripe, elegant wines with fine fruit, which are harvested a little later. These wines are more intense in flavor and concentration, but not necessarily sweet. Good with richer, more flavorful foods, or by themselves.
Rheinhessen : Germany's largest wine region, lies in a valley of gentle rolling hills. Varied soils and the favorable climate make it possible to grow many grape varieties, old and new. In fact, many of Germany's aromatic, early-ripening new crossings were bred in Rheinhessen. The region boasts the world's largest acreage planted with the ancient variety Silvaner and is the birthplace of Liebfraumilch. Rheinhessen wines are often characterized as being soft, fragrant, medium-bodied and mild in acidity - pleasant, easy-to-drink wines. There are also wines of great class and elegance, with a depth and complexity second to none.
Vintage 2018 : That had never happened before in Germany´s largest wine region. The very favourable, settled weather conditions continued into the harvest, allowing many grapes to stay on the vine right up to October and partly even to November. The Rheinhessen growers were overall pleasantly surprised with the performance of their vines. A growing season like 2018 is ideal for white wines in Rheinhessen will be rich in aromas, varietally typical and fruity with moderate acidity levels. Numerous noble-sweet specialities are also available. In view of the Rheinhessen Weinwirtschaftsrat (trade advisory body): “This great vintage was unexpected but will be remembered for a long time”. Wine lovers can already look forward to the results. By Wines of Germany (https://www.germanwines.de/)
