Tasting note |
The classical and harmonious 2008 Faustino I Gran Reserva is very polished and balanced with clean, focused aromas and flavors, balsamic with notes of cigar ash and incense, a bit shy and austere. A very good vintage for this bottling. 520,000 bottles produced. By Robert Parker@ Robert Parkers Tasting of Rioja Wines.
Brandied berry and raisin aromas lead the nose of this mature Gran Reserva. The texture is austere and grippy, a reflection of a cold vintage. Spice, earth, berry and plum flavors finish with a note of tobacco. Drink through 2024. By Michael Schachner @ Wine Enthusiast, Jan 2018.
The flagship Faustino I Gran Reserva carries Rembrandt’s 1641 portrait of Nicolaes Van Bambeek. Faustino I is known as Primero – a premium wine only bottled in good vintages and is a rough blend of 80% Tempranillo with Graciano and Mazuelo. It is released for sale after a minimum of 25 months in French and American oak barrels plus at least three years in the bottle. By Georgina Hindle @ Decanter. Jul 2019.
