Tasting note |
Some assertive toasty oak, almost candied nuts and toffee-like notes layered across bright spiced pear and peach fruits. The palate has a smooth sleeve of rich lemon, grapefruit, pear and green melon fruit, slippery glossy textural appeal and good depth. By James Suckling, Feb 2018.
Light, yellow-gold. Expressive, mineral-accented aromas of pear nectar, white peach, tangerine and toasted grain show impressive clarity and lift. Fleshy, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit and melon flavors are braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity and a suggestion of bitter peach pit. In a vibrant, expressive style, showing impressive energy and finishing taut and minerally, with repeating orchard fruit character and lingering smokiness. By Josh Raynolds @ Vinous, Dec 2021.
Light, bright yellow colour and a slightly oak-driven nutty bouquet, with creamy smoky barrel-ferment complexities. The palate is very refined and delicate, restrained and pared-back, with softness and harmony aplenty. The oak notes on the nose are not so apparent in the mouth. (It had a full malolactic fermentation and nine months in seasoned barriques). By Huon Hooke, Oct 2017.
Penfolds’ cool climate Chardonnay offering, the 2016 Chardonnay Bin 311, has fresh white peach, lemon curd and Golden Delicious apple with hints of honeysuckle and lightly browned toast. Light to medium-bodied, it has a lively line of acid lifting the pure stone fruit and apple flavors, finishing on a mineral note. By Lisa Perrotti-Brown @ Wine Advocate, Oct 2017. |
