Tasting note |
A cool but ripe nose is quite restrained with its elegant array of red cherry and abundance of floral nuances and particularly lavender. There is good intensity to the delineated and stony medium weight flavors that display a taut muscularity on the lingering if somewhat bitter and clipped finale. As the description suggests, this is presently pretty awkward and it's honestly hard to say if it will harmonize as the tannins resolve. The Jadot Pougets has an excellent track record for aging out beautifully but it's a puzzle today. By Allen Meadows, Apr 2021.
The 2018 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a very composed, detailed bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and pressed rose petal aromas, the most elegant of the three Cortons 2018s from Jadot. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and wonderful acidity. Very harmonious, with an almost luxurious but compelling finish. Superb. By Neal Martin @ Vinous, Jan 2020.
A distinct whiff of Amarena fleets across this wine's nose before senses fill with the ripeness of black cherry. Cherry richness, sometimes with an overtone of chocolate, fills the generous but defined palate where velvety tannins are firm underneath their supple surface. They still crackle but reveal ample freshness and verve on the rich, muscular and toned body. Aromatic tenderness returns on the finish. By Wine Enthusiast, Dec 2020.
Revisited in bottle, the 2018 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is performing superbly, bursting with aromas of plums, red berries, rose petals, orange rind and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with beautifully refined tannins, lively acids and a bright, mineral finish, it's an especially elegant example of both this emblematic Jadot cuvée and of the vintage. In 2019, I reported on over 120 different 2018 Burgundies from Louis Jadot. As I wrote then, Jadot's Frédéric Barnier was optimistic about the reds from the beginning, but, he said, "We worked hard with the white wines—blocking a lot of malolactic—to make them fresh and lively." Revisiting an extensive range from bottle in my office in the United States, I was gratified to find the wines just as consistent as they had shown in barrel.
