Tasting note |
An elegant, but decidedly earthy wine, the 2007 Calon Segur reveals attractive sweet cherry and red currant fruit intermixed with background soil undertones, and a round, spicy, medium-bodied, finesse-filled style. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Drink 2010-2018. By Robert Parker, Apr 2010.
Milk chocolate aromas, with hints of nut and fruit, lead to a medium body, with good fruit and a silky finish. This lacks some fruit midpalate, but its pretty and delicious. A little chewy. Best after 2012. By James Suckling @ Wine Spectator, 2010.
Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Calon Segur has a lovely ferrous bouquet that is just pure Saint Estephe, maybe a little rustic in style, yet there is presence, impressive intensity and plenty of charm. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, not a complex Calon Segur, and you cannot escape the fact that it fades sharply towards the finish. That said, there is freshness in situ, and despite it feeling blocky and broad shouldered, it is the kind of off-vintage Claret that bistros and restaurants love. Drink now because I cannot foresee any improvement in bottle. Tasted February 2017. Jun 2017. By Neal Martin. |
