Tasting note |
A wine from the 2011 vintage that overtly benefits from Bin 707’s relegation from the vintage.Often dubbed ‘Baby Grange’, partly because ex-Grange barrels are used to mature the wine, this is one of the staples of Penfolds portfolio. A balancing act of fruit and oak has achieved a full-bodied, voluminous liquid, with notes of spice and coffee, Christmas pudding and black olives. Technically tricky weather conditions meant that excellent vineyard management and fruit selection were vital to this wine’s success – but that it is a success is beyond question.
