An exceptional wine made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Canaiolo from hillside vineyards, the wine is fermented in stainless steel with 15-20 days of skin maceration. It then spends 12 months in barrique and over 3 years in the bottle. If stored properly, it has a very long aging potential. It bears the signature of Giorgio Lungarotti because with his continuous desire to experiment, he wanted to try this blend, unusual for its time, creating the first “Superumbrian” in 1977.
On the label, Saint George and the dragon, detail from the famous painting by Raffaello on display in the Louvre, in tribute to the traditional feast day of Saint George on April 23rd when the custom still alive today is to light propitiatory bonfires in the vineyards around Torgiano. Founded in the 60's by Giorgio Lungarotti, the cantina Lungarotti has given a new dimension to the small town of Torgiano and wines. It is one of the top producer of Umbria proposing very high quality wines. The cantina is based on close family relationships based on respect of values which includes the tradition, history and earth. The estate is now run by two sisters, Chiara Lungarotti and Teresa Severini. Maria Grazia Lungarotti Lungarotti now runs a foundation dedicated to the development of culture. Lungarotti offers a multitude of wine ranging from fruity wine to be drunk young in some beads with a Torgiano Riserva, the perfect complement of Sagrantino. |
