The grapes for the Lynedoch were sourced entirely from the Ross Estate vineyard at Lyndoch. This is a new and exciting combination for the Barossa using the three classic Bordeaux varieties. First released in 1998 and receives many accolades for its refreshing new style.
The 2005 vintage provided good growing conditions, ensuring full maturity of all varieties of grapes in a warm dry season. Harvest took place in late March 2005. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, in order to fully display their individual characteristics. The three individual grape varieties were harvested, fermented and matured separately until the final blending process. Fermentation was carried out in open-topped fermenters. After racking, the wines were matured in new French and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.
The wine is medium to dark brick red with tinges of blue. The nose is distinct, complex, with lifted violet from the Cabernet Franc. Spearmint and eucalyptus is evident on the nose due to the Cabernet Sauvignon planted near a row of Eucalyptus trees. With very subtle oak, the velvety balance of the varieties is evident, showing a seamless layering effect of fruit on the palate. Strongly fruit driven by blackberry, black liquorice with silky tannins, these aromas and flavours will continue to integrate with bottle ageing. By the Winemaker Note. |
